The Philosophy

Alex Zell is a German-based horsemanship trainer, instructor, and clinician known for his work in Vaquero Horsemanship (old Californian tradition) and classical equestrian principles. He combines elements of European classical riding (pre-HDv 12 tradition), biomechanics, and liberty/groundwork training to develop horses in a structured yet creative way.

His teaching philosophy focuses on creating healthy, motivated, and mentally engaged horses, prioritising long-term soundness and partnership over competition results. He works extensively with groundwork, ridden work, and bitless training, often blending in concepts from classical masters and modern biomechanical understanding.

Alex Zell also runs clinics and educational events across Europe, including the well-known horsemanship gatherings such as “Find the Flow”, where he teaches alongside other international trainers. He is associated with a training base in Portugal (with Nina Jensen) and travels regularly for courses in Germany and other European countries.
