The Philosophy
I has been coaching for nearly 40years, I have trained horses to Grand Prix level dressage and competed to intermediate 1 level. I am also the author of the book “The Training Spiral”.
I am a BHS APC and hold the UKCC level 3 Dressage certificate and I am a BD accredited coach.
I specialise in dressage and groundwork with horses. I especially enjoy working with ‘less conventional’ dressage breeds, having successfully competed my traditional gypsy cob at advanced levels and competed other horses and ponies up to inter 1 level. Of course, I am equally happy working with warmbloods and have a wealth of experience with many different breeds having bred, owned and trained various breeds such as warmbloods, highlands and Welsh ponies.
I coach all levels of rider no matter if their ambitions are to compete to a high level or feel safer when out hacking or handling their horse.
I can regularly be coaching advanced riders up to inter1 level, then my next client may be about to have a go at their first canter steps. I don't mind what level you or your horse are at, I gain a lot of satisfaction from helping any combination progress on their chosen path.
My key focus when coaching is communication, firstly I want to ensure the rider understands what I’m meaning. I always provide the ‘what’, ‘how’ and the all important ‘why’ of things as I believe this then empowers riders to be able to replicate things when riding on their own.
I also believe that helping the rider to understand things from the horse’s perspective is what opens up a greater ability for the rider and horse to communicate and this in turn leads to quicker and easier progress in which ever direction the rider chooses to develop in.
